Navient employees help build new home

FISHERS, Ind., Sept. 13, 2017—More than 100 Navient employees rolled up their sleeves to construct a new house for local resident Christine Camacho in support of the Greater Indy Habitat for Humanity.

Navient, a leading asset management and business processing services company, contributed $10,000 to further aid the organization’s efforts in bringing people together to build homes, communities and hope.

“We often take our homes for granted, but for some, having their own space can mark the start to a new beginning,” said Gail Thomas-Shearon, Navient employee coordinator for the event. “We are proud to help support the construction of the house one more area family can soon call home.”

Employees began building at 7:30 a.m. in the parking lot of Navient’s facility in Fishers, working until 12:30 p.m. when the three-bedroom house was prepared for pickup to move to its permanent location in Greenfield. Volunteers were divided into teams of eight who assisted in the house’s construction wall by wall.

“In just five hours, Navient employees constructed all of the wall panels for the Camacho family’s future home,” said Jim Morris, president and CEO, Greater Indy Habitat for Humanity. “Though it may seem like a quick day of swinging hammers for Navient volunteers, their work helps get Christine closer to achieving her dream of homeownership and a stable, affordable place to live.”

“Thank you, Navient, for the confidence to pursue the American Dream, and especially for the opportunity for this life-changing adventure, and for believing it’s never too late to have your dream come true of homeownership,” Camacho said.

Navient and its employees regularly give their time and resources to the community. This is the ninth year employees have volunteered with the Greater Indy Habitat for Humanity to build a home for a local family.
